Wisconsin 4-star WR transfer Markus Allen visiting Gophers

Besides Kim Royston and Jared Moe (hockey) who else has transferred between these two schools?

Looks like a Dylan Wright clone. Big body, stud in HS, questionable top end speed, 4* recruit who's produced very little in 2 years. In fairness he's had Graham Mertz throwing to him. Formerly committed to Mich but flipped to Wisc late in 2020.

Not technically a transfer, but Sampo Ranta was a very last minute switch from Wisconsin to Minnesota.

You see what I hi-lited there.

I hate to say it, but if you take Mertz's numbers the past two years and compare it to our qb..........well, you'd think you were looking at the Kansas City chiefs passing game. It's so embarrassing.

can he come here and be like Charlie Jones has been for Purdue with AK throwing to him?

Not sure I follow your analogy since Mertz's 2020 and 2021 are very similar to Morgan's. Mertz has been a little better this year but the only number that is really significantly better for Mertz is TDs and that is based primarily on 2 games (5 against NW, and 3 against NMST).

Both QBs have been pretty mediocre for the past few seasons. Mertz has been mediocre his entire career and Morgan had the one phenomenal year in 2019. Neither guy seems likely to have an NFL future.

That game last year. I assumed Mertz ws hurt really bad because some of those balls fell in no mans land like 8 yards short ... and just rolled around. Dbs, nobody was even near them sometimes ... it was strange.

Good point -- he wasn't admitted to Wisconsin due to something related to his TOEFL score.

M Allen could not make the two-deep at WR and the WI offense has no seniors so he saw the writing on the wall.
Because of the HC change, he does not have to wait for the portal doors to open to change teams.

Sure, but remember that can easily be flipped to taking 3 away from Tanner vs Colorado. Mertz has taken a big step forward in 2022, which may or may not be saying much. I think he will get a cup of coffee in the NFL after 2023. Hell, Joel Stave got one and he may have been one of UW's worst starting QBs in the last decade or two.

There's also a "rumor" he had a very similar situation to Quintez Cephus but charges were never brought due to lack of evidence. That was confirmed by multiple people on Buckyville who appear to be in the know.

Cephus was actually expelled at one point. I would be suprised if that could be kept secret in this case.

UW got sued by Cephus for being improperly expelled. A quick google search didn't show any sign of a settlement, but it seems UW was likely in the wrong and also may be why the Allen rumoes never came to the general public attention. Who knows though.

Yeah I know how that played out, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

“Bro-Cephus”?!?!

It’s a fammm-lee tradition?

You do realize Cephus was proven innocent?

Didn't JJ Watt commit to the UofM, but then backed out when Mason was let go to walk on at Wisconsin?

There was a stop at a directional Michigan school for a semester and second semester worked at pizza join in home town and second year walked on at WI I believe was the exact route. Crazy to think Watt would have played TE at the U as Glen always put the athletes on the offensive side of the ball and likely been great catching passes too.

I would think they will lose a lot of their O to the portal after this season. Paul Chryst was obviously a very popular coach.
I think they'd lose a bunch of guys only if Leonhard isn't named HC. If he is, I bet they won't lose much more than they already have.

Even though he couldn't make the 2 deep there, I'd sign him up. You're not a 4 star if you don't at least have some potential.

Couldn’t hurt yo gave another very athletic WR with some size. Bring Riley Mahlman along …
Mahlman should have stuck with the Gophers.

Let's hope some experienced OLs and some in development at Wisconsin jump over.

The Gophers will launch a few of them into NFL careers.

Isn’t the portal always open regardless of coaching changes or not?

Sure, but JL had nothing to do with their offense.

The PC-firing was an indigtment of their O.
