Scott Frost FIRED & Updates on Nebraska Coaching Search Thread

Universities do ridiculous things when it comes to football coach money, but they wouldn't be doing their jobs if they didn't try to negotiate something with Frost. I hope Nebraska made the full buyout. It leaves their athletic department in more of a bind.

I hope they did too. But it won't affect their athletic department, they still have more booster money than we could ever imagine, let alone all of the B1G TV money.

It is possible he is that dumb.
Maybe they tried to guilt him into it. "Do what's right for Nebraska, Scott. Leave some dignity and honor to your legacy here, don't fight this."

Wild guess, who knows if it even is less. I could easily see Neb saying just take the whole 14 and get outta here.

Precisely. 3 weeks isn't long to wait. Dumb move.
Unless you have someone lined up and don't want to risk losing that person in 3 weeks?

Or you want a 3 week headstart on the search?

Etc. That's how these (rich) people think. 14 mill is peanuts

I was hoping he would stay

Nebraska's problems run a lot deeper than Scott Frost

Nebraska was always an artificial creation, sustained mostly on its past successes. Players wanted to leave Cali and Texas and Florida to come play for Tom Osborne when it meant competing for championships and getting drafted. The in-state talent makes Minnesota look like Florida.

It's going to be much harder to build a team almost 100% from out of state when none of those kids have seen Nebraska be even a low-end competitor for conference titles in their lifetime. The Huskers aren't a destination for much of anything anymore, except nostalgic college football fans.

The worst mistake would be hiring someone who thinks Nebraska should be a place where 4 and 5 star kids want to and will sign.

Neb is going to have to be rebuilt from the ground up, on a foundation of 3 star kids, who you develop.

If I were them, I'd look at Rossi. Sorry, and hope like heck it doesn't happen. Hopefully we can rest fine knowing they probably aren't that smart, and will try to make a splashy, big "name" hire.

Could they tell him is is effective Oct 1st but that they are suspending him until then or something?

I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska negotiated the lower payout. To Frost: you're fired in 3 weeks with the lower payout or immediately. Which will it be?
You can just fire him effective oct 1 but reassign him to different duties

Lol.
Try to rub 2 brain cells together before posting.

I don’t get why they don’t wait for the buyout to drop unless they have someone ready to go.

Did they seriously think he would pick it up this season?

Because they buyout isn’t the buyout

The buyout is the “buyout”

The only way it makes sense to me is if some boosters approached the AD and said we will pay the extra $7.5 million to fire him today.
Or the reverse. The threaten to pull season tickets and donations unless it's done now.

I doubt Frosty gets his full buyout, Nebraska probably added 1/2 to 1 million, to be able to fire him now.

You’ve obviously never negotiated anything in your life except getting a disability check for injuring your pussy.
Panthadad's theory:

Nebraska: "we owe you $15m per this legally binding contract if we fire you today. Will you take less if we fire you today?"

Scott Frost: "OK."

Also, Scott Frost has an agent that handles all the money stuff. Same thing as Fleck and I'm sure most major coaches.

Sure, Frosty can overrule him. But usually the agent's job is to fight for the best deal for the client.

Urban Meyers chance at redemption.
Something like this is what I’m afraid of. Nebraska doesn’t care at all about perception and a coach’s baggage. Presumably they also have the booster money to make this happen.

It's probably more like, you're fired effective Oct 2, we will suspend you until that date. If you accept firing now, we'll kick in a sweetener, to make it worth your while.
