Watching on TV, it looked like a nice crowd, and very lively and spirited.

Was it anywhere near a sellout?

Lively crowd, noticeably low attendance in the upper reaches of the stands. But hey that is where it should be a little baron.

But very energetic.

Honestly it felt like that crowd still had energy from the last game (Wisconsin).

We're a LONG ways from the days of sleepy crowds, PJ and the team have really changed the crowd dynamic.

The student section was chock full and frat row was rocking hard leading up to the game. That's what really matters in my mind.
I assume they still got free tickets to the game. Lots of freshman wearing their orientation shirts.

Barron Trump was at the Game?

Freshman get free tickets to the opener, not sure how long they've done it but it has packed that section the past few openers.
Freshman class (around 7,000 of them)

I would say actual attendance was probably 40,000? Student section was packed...by early 3rd quarter it was down to maybe 65% full and by the end of the 3rd, under 50% for sure.
Maybe they should hide the scoring like boxing so no one can afford to leave.

At least they were interested enough to use them. A good sign because a loud and enthusiastic student section fires up everyone, including TV viewers at home who start thinking about buying a ticket for next game.

The growth of the student section has been a really nice result of the Fleck era. A couple students visited our tailgate (relative of one of our regulars) and when they left early, they said it was because they wanted to get to the stadium in time to avoid having to sit in the second deck. Separating the student section in decks like the rest of the stadium was one of the two big design mistakes of the Bank in my opinion (the other being the undersized band pit).

I realize freshmen get free tix to the first game but in just a couple years the atmosphere has gone from horrible student attendance to the Bank becoming the place to be for students on game days. I love to see that.

I thought 44k attendance was “okay” for a tough sell of a game.

Have you attended since it opened? Student section has always had good attendance. Free tickets has helped.

And I do believe they moved up the move in dates to coincide with the football opener. At some point in the past classes didn’t start until much later in September….obviously moving them up as well.

The top section was often empty and ss section has really done great job.

I've had season tickets since kills since 2013, ss hasn't always shown strong

What!???! The student section has most certainly NOT always had good attendance. There was a period of years where it was abysmal and there were a gazillion threads right here on Gopherhole lamenting at that fact. They even shrunk the student section as a result.

And to answer your question… I’ve missed two games in the history of the current stadium and our seats are… next to the student section.

At any rate, it has been nice to see the growth of student attendance over the last few years.

Fill the stadium is always my view. Student tix were $10/game in my day. I thought that was cheap for how fun it was to ride the bus to the dome cheering ‘who hates iowa’ no matter who we played. Get them freshman hooked early, thats what got me as a lifelong fan. Even though wisconsin 2005 happened. But hey we got the jug and the pig.
