Jerry Kill - Dunkers

At first, I was surprised when I had heard the Dunker's group asked him to speak. Later I mellowed and felt that yes, he would tell some stories while he was here, perhaps experiencing elsewhere. I really doubt that he would stoop so low to take shots at the Gophers while speaking at the Dunkers. I'm sure one of the folks at Dunker's club would simply cut him off. Maybe not.

Grudges shouldn't be held forever and perhaps this would have been very good for Kill to work on his personal life by stating a few things that would allow him to heal. It's simply not healthy to hold a grudge or not forgive someone.

At the end of the day, I feel we made a mistake backing off from having him speak. No one really hasn't said anything as to all the cons of having him speak. What are they? It's not like having a Wisconsin or Iowa coach speak.

Barreiro rants too childishly and repeats himself way too much for me to take time to listen.
The massive mistake was in inviting him to speak. To the primary Gopher Booster Club. On game day. As the opposing head coach. After trashing the U on the way out. After a childish and unprovoked attack on the current head coach. None of which he'a ever apologized for, retracted, or even slightly backed away from.

ON OPENING DAY OF THE FOOTBALL SEASON.

And you dont see what a galacticly stupid idea that is? How that looks???

What, was this a one off fund raiser for NMSU football?

Good lord.

Does anyone know, would he get paid for speaking at an event like this? I'm just trying to figure out how this would benefit him now. Doing it while he's coaching locally makes sense to help promote the program. No one there would care about New Mexico St. The only two things I can think of is he's doing it just for the money (if he gets paid) or he's doing it to get a chance to rip Fleck and the U.
There is no benefit except for an opportunity to be petty and get under Flecks skin again. We love ole country Jer, but he’ll get dirty too

Kill did win Floyd twice, so he’ll always my admiration, despite the things that he said after leaving.

Pure gold.

I see Jerry Kill was scheduled to speak at Dunkers the morning of NMSU's game with the Gophers. Apparently some blow back as Gaardsie is now reporting the event has been canceled. What were they thinking?
Wtf are these people thinking getting lying jer a speaking opportunity. Guy sucks big time. Snake

Short memory? How was Coach Brew doing with team GPA? Do you remember Coach Brew doing much for community outreach? His players?
Seems tome there was huge difference between Kill and Brewster.
Jerry got pissy and many will not forgive him. I think he was petty but am ready to move on.
Brewster did do some. I know of some instances, as did Mason to some degree, and Wacker before that.

IIRC the biggest drop-offs were between coaches.

What value did he bring to the program apart from being better than Brewster?

Don’t say kids with cancer or charity, because literally every coach has done community service with his team
Good grief.

Good grief.
That’s what I’m saying.
Never before kill had a gopher football player graduated or gone to class.
Afterwards? No one ever got in trouble

Kill was a solid football coach. Sorry I’m not ready to canonize him. Good grief

No doubt. And got the program to New Year’s Day. Won 8 games + 3 times (I credit claeys as the same era as kill…sorry Tracy but you were an interim coach)

He was a solid coach on the field.

That’s my number one positive about him

They are no longer married.
Well you know that was coming with one of the most selfish lying coaches I have known. He was always putting his wants and desires ahead of his wife who was very good to him. He is a 1st class clown show

IIRC it went up. That was due to the lull/ void after Mason was fired . IIRC The same thing also happened between Kill and Fleck.

How well did you know him?

I mentioned in another thread on this that I don't mind them bringing him back for a day during the offseason. I just think it's bad to have any opposing coach in on game day.

Having said that, I'm not sure why you don't think Kill would come in and blast Fleck or the U of MN. One of his rants occurred when he did a radio (or podcast?) interview a couple years ago. They were wrapping up the interview and the hosts were saying goodbye/thank you and Kill basically said, "Wait a minute ..." and went on a bashing spree. He wasn't asked about Fleck; he went out of his way to make sure he was heard. Has time and a few more coaching stops softened his pain? Maybe. But I sure wouldn't bet on him keeping quiet while surrounded by a group of supporters.
Kill has proven himself to be bitter and petty and not able to move on.

Whoever invited him to speak doesn't have a clue and it's sad and they need help.

"Kill has proven himself to be bitter and petty and not able to move on."

Looking at nearly every thread that mentions his name, so has the majority of the board. With some posters seemingly obsessed with him. Similar to Kill's obsession to prove he still belongs being the Head Coach of a football team. Neither of which makes much sense.

All that said inviting him to speak at Dunkers really was inexplicable.

Please explain.
IIRC He took on many of "Woody" Teague's (Former AD resigned after a alleged scandal) duties while a search was conducted. Some felt this only added to his health issues due to added stress and workload.

Weird response. You asked for examples and I provided them.
You provided great examples of things every coach does. Tried to get his players to class, community outreach

Selective memory is my exact response because you seem to remember kill doing things in the community but forget mason, Brewster, wacker, and fleck doing things in the community and trying to get players to go to class.

And don’t hit me with…”under Brewster nobody went to class” because it simply isn’t true. There is no data to back that up outside of anecdotes from kill’s staff the first year. Which isn’t data…it’s the exact thing kill ripped fleck for saying

Guess I'll go back to my first thoughts. He shouldn't have been invited. I'm sure Jerry would have mentioned Rebecca in the media guide if he was married. Guessing he is not but with no proof.
