MJ Anderson in the transfer portal

Who knows what is driving this? but this is the new normal in college sports. Players will transfer for all kinds of reasons: looking for playing time - issues with coaches or teammates - family issues - academic issues - girlfriend issues.

fans are just going to have to live with this.

Wow. That hurts.
Best wishes for him, but odd timing.

PJ will be hitting the portal for D-line depth.

Damn that sucks, I wouldn’t have been mad if he started over Otemewo, very likely would’ve started next year. Not sure Fleck hits the portal or not though, there is depth there, but not tons of game experience.

I don’t think teams are “allowed” to recruit players on other rosters, but seems crazy to enter the portal if you didn’t have a good idea of your possible landing spots. I’m sure there is plenty of talk that isn’t supposed to happen.

Ouch. He gets playing time now and is seemingly the frontrunner to start next season. Wonder what the story is?

Weird, I’m pretty sure that he would have been starting next year.

Shit. Wanted him to stick around the whole time. Whyever he's doing it I bet these coaches will do everything they can to help him. FAMILY even when that family wants something better for themselves. Hopefully he has a good plan moving forward.

Perhaps. However I would think it would depend upon the situation. I realize that Fleck is about loyalty, hard work, family etc. Somewhere there is a line though.

What I meant by that, is it doesn't look like it's about playing time, and (my very limited access into the program) hasn't shown any charachter differences. I hope it is something like getting closer to home. If that's the case they would help him, I think. Only a guess. The coaching community is probably pretty tight knit (with some obvious exceptions) and a good word from the right person could help a young man and improve the reputation of that coaching staff.

High school coaches are often the conduits in this situation. Perfectly within the rules.

Dang nothing to add of substance... just wanted to add to the chorus saying this absolutely stinks. he was already making an impact this year and was a huge piece moving forward. Big ouch.

Gee thanks! This really clears things up Captain.

Shocking, kids want more from college than just starting and playing time. Good luck to him. Welcome to the new normal. #ROW

My guess is one of two things.

He just found out Otemewo is coming back for his senior year.

Jah Joyner, Danny Striggow are looking great.

We do rotate a lot and some guys want to play the whole game.

That's disgusting to quit on your teammates the week before a rivalry game.

MJ Anderson's a good football player but I wouldn't take him back.
I agree, provided there isn’t some personal reason behind the scenes that we are unaware of.

Totally understandable to want more. But do any of those desires really necessitate quitting with one game left in the season?

That puts a whole different spin on it. I didn't think of that. But like U2Gopher said, I hope there isn't a personal reason behind it.

If not a personal reason, then yeah, I'm in your shoes, with the biggest game this year coming up and doing it now is odd.

Wants to be home for the Holidays, get offer and sign in December.

You seem personally offended.
Personally offended?

You think someone needs to be personally tethered to something in order to find it objectively disgusting? Give your head a shake dumb-dumb.

You would have thought the "new normal" in terms of transferring out would have waited a week. I've always been a supporter of the players having more flexibility and being able to make money of their likeness but if he quit the Gophers on the Sunday before our final game against a rival with a potential Big 10 championship on the line then he lacks any loyalty, personal responsibility, or any kind of personal code.

Unless there is some personal issues that we don't know about, he lacks character.
