Pitino coming back

Why do you think Coyle didn't make a move? Do you think he is that enamored with Pitino or do you think he didn't like his options?

We are going to see far less movement this year than most given the current circumstances. It would be almost impossible for a new coach to come in and not be able to make any recruiting visits, etc. etc. It's a bad time.

Bingo. Coyle didn't make a move largely because revenue will be lost due to economic uncertainty across the country and he didn't have support from the Board of Regents to buy 2 contracts out, and pay a new coach.

This is the likely the actual answer, that we'll never get to hear official.

Cheap ass regents nipped it.

But there is plenty enough economic certainty to pay Fleck and his staff a huge raise.

Coyle would get destroyed by the National Media had he fired Pitino after the last two seasons. That wouldn't look good to coaching prospects.
Oh yes, the media would have been outraged that a rich white boy born with a silver spoon in his mouth loses his job. We all know how victimized this class of people are.

Stop the presses, a rich white man got fired !!! Oh the horror!!

You have no idea if Coyle asked or not
If he had asked, CS was a yes. This is an easy, and likely correct assumption to make.

If he was a yes, why wait, and then why not just go forward with it, as many schools did a couple days ago? (or was it yesterday, whichever)

That to me proves he did not ask. Which is silly, and makes me think he never planned to ask.

Um, Fleck's raise happened well before the world went upside down.

Dude, what is it with you and "the media", Alex Jones?

That all happened before the events that unfolded over the last week

I think Pitino's last name carries a lot of weight with fans and the administration. If his name was Richard Anderson, and his record was the same. Would fans still want a year 8? Just wondering. GO GOPHERS!

Just the opposite. People are harder on him due to his last name. So many clowns on here that call him "Ricky" because of his dad (as well as their simple-minded sense of humors)

No it's not, and you don't just hire people without interviewing them.

It would have been super awesome if Coyle fired the coach on Thursday and then we couldn't conduct any interviews for the new coach who also couldn't recruit any players for months. Dang, I wish Coyle was smarter.

We also have no idea whether or not Smith would've come running instantly.

If he is the next rock star college basketball prospect, he would likely have better options.
He would've come running because it's his home. He's not a rock star, but neither was Fleck.

You guys keep straining to make this way harder than it was. I'll do me.

You mean not make sense?

Minneapolis isn't Smith's home. That's the one thing I could see being a negative for him. He grew up in a tiny town in far NW Minnesota. The biggest cities he's lived in with his family are Fargo, Lincoln, NE, and Fort Collins CO, all similar size and significantly smaller than Minneapolis.

You have no idea if he wants this job or not, especially when he'll have other opportunities.

I don't care if you're forcing yourself not to get it, for sake of discussion, or just because you want to present an affront to me for your own personal amusement. I don't care.

Minny would obviously be closer to his family and friends than any other P5 job. He's not going to be picky about a P5 opportunity. He's going to tell Texas "sorry no thanks, I'm waiting for a P5 job in a small town, because that's what myself and my family are used to"?

The recruiting ban is real, but there's no reason he couldn't have been interviewed. Domestic travel hasn't been banned yet.

The concerns about revenue tanking, and not wanting to pay the buyout seem logical.

Read what I was responding to, dude!! Really?! Am I not allowed to talk about the media, Rachel Maddow?

Go read Trump's Twitter and have a circle jerk.
Fake narrative. Never was a thing

Does it look like a lot of coaching changes are going on right now?

Also, I heard Craig Smith just filed a restraining order against you. Creeper-level obsession

You have no idea what Craig Smith wants or what Coyle has already done or talked to. You're just making assumptions.

I fully said that in all my posts. No reason for you to get so defensive.

Also very odd coming from you as one of the biggest CS advocates.

You have some serious issues!!

I do. Hopefully most of them will be resolved in November. I also can't wait for CNN to become our sole news provider in this country. That will be perfect.

Glad you agree there were a lot of moves

We should definitely be following UNC-Wilmington and Wyoming's lead!! We are so far behind.

Next seasons motto will be: "Hope for the best. Expect the worst."
