Does anyone have a sense of the player fallout if they do let Claeys go? Is another boycott possible? How ugly could it get? Do we win a game next year?

I really can't see that happening if Claeys is let go.

1. Claeys will not be let go.
2. Moot

Intramural Football

Did you watch the game? These guys are united! Fire Claeys and we have intramural football! There will be no boycott, significant numbers will be gone. No recruiting class. Very dumb decision if it happens.

As with any coaching change a few guys might be lost in the change. Most would stay.

Don't think he is getting fired though

And if he stays, I'd hope that all the players who are looking at one year suspensions or probation would stay after he and their teammates stuck their necks out for them.

If the U was stupid enough to let Claeys go (and anything is possible with the U), then
we would be looking at 3-9, 2-10 seasons for a decade.

Yeah agreed. The reason why I ask is because of a post Burns put out on his private Scout blog that he was getting conflicted reports and was "unsure" in what they actually may do. I am a season ticket holder so if they do let Claeys go I am not paying for another 5 years of rebuilding.

Hopefully, Claeys is back. Then the question is moot. If they were to let him go though, I'm guessing a lot would be determined by who they brought in. I can't imagine a lot of guys wanting to sit out a year to transfer elsewhere.

Yeah, we moved to buying the 3 packs or tickets for a specific game. Had some gorgeous 50 yard line seats in the sun for homecoming, and didn't have to pay any blood money. Best of both worlds (and you don't have to pay for games when we play Northern-Alaska-Yukon).

Players can't just leave without sitting out a year. If they've already redshirted, doubt they'd want to sit again. They also have to find suitors for their services.

We also don't know if any of the staff would be retained.

I just don't think he gets fired.

Usually how it goes is, coach is let go, players are dissappointed and say they will weigh their decision / might transfer. Then new coach is names, and everyone is now excited about the new coach and his philosophy.

The only players I think we'd be at risk of losing are the ones who are here just to run train on girls who are highly intoxicated.

I'm pretty sure the new coach won't endorse that sort of stuff so possibly many players could be upset by that and transfer to schools where having sex with girls who are barely conscience is considered a good idea.

If Claeys is fired, no one, and I mean no one of note would accept this job, and why would they. For that matter, if I am TC I might consider taking a coordinators job to get out of the mess that is Minnesota sports. They are jacking him around in a huge way.

If he's let go Mark Coyle would already have someone lined up, other than this incident this is an athletic administrator who has done well.

Top coaches want to go to a school where 1) the administration is willing to do what it takes at an elite level, and 2) the pay is competitive.

If Claeys is let go, the message that will be sent is that the U is hamstrung by powers antithetical to success on the field. There are too many anti-football sentiments running around the U as it stands, and has been for a while (remember Nils Hasselmo, who wanted to replace football with soccer???) and the unspoken message will be that it will be reinforced. That will get us losing football for a decade. Minny will be forgotten- worse than during the Wacker years.

Other than running through an ice field at full speed, the Titanic captain did a great job.

So, let me get this straight.

1) Out of this mess the inept administration is going to hire a new coach that everyone is excited about.

2) The alleged victim in this mess was highly intoxicated.

3) The current coach advocates sexual assault.

4) After the support for the current coach was clearly illustrated based on the bowl game result, the only ones that would leave are those that could no longer engage in group sex with drunk women.

Did I miss anything?

I agree. It's a formula for sure, but one where, here at UM, the excitement doesn't last very long. I also agree with you that the girl barely had any conscience! She just wanted some rope anyway she could get it.

You think no one would accept a 9 win power 5 team?

Despite the scandal, Minnesota would be in their best position to land a good coach in a long time.

Many would argue Minnesota landing Kill was landing a good coach, and program is in much better shape now than when Brewster was let go.

He would be gone by now. Get over it folks.

I agree he isn't going anywhere. If there is any truth to the rumor buyouts go down Jan 1 then I don't think anything is certain until Coyle or Kaler issues a statement saying TC will be the coach next season.

I don't believe Tracy is going anywhere. Everyone talks about firing a coach but what they forget is that you then fire the whole staff. I really like the staff and think that it has been a strength for some time. I disagree with the way Tracy is being jacked around and as a result of the delay in extension some potential recruits will be one cold to the U. Not saying it would happen but I bet things would be different if another school looking off a solid staff and a stout defense came a knockin.

This is one of the stupidest things I have read on GopherHole.

Even Brewster who was (arguably) one of the worst P5 hires of all time won 6 and 7 games his second and third years.

An entire decade? Come on man!

This is just plain stupid.

In normal coaching changes, the threat of transfer is usually overblown, and there usually isn't much change for reasons others have already stated.

But I do believe that this is a different situation, and a few more would leave out of anger, solidarity and protest. Not to mention rebuilding. Valid reasons, rather than the buffoonery FTF spouts.

A bad hire Minnesota yes, but all of P5? That's a stretch. Just have to look at places like Kansas, Colorado, Purdue, or even Washington with Willingham to find worse.

I agree with the rest of your post though.

Fire Claeys and watch it happen. Word would be out that Minnesota is not a football-friendly place. Our rivals have been using that line against us for decades and it would only get more intense. Trust me, I've been watching Gopher Football for almost 50 years. I'm not the one who would look stupid under that scenario.

Many Gopher Holers said the same thing about Penn State after the Sandusky ordeal.
