The attempted expulsion and suspension of 10 African American males for possibly having sex with a white female is reminiscent of racist behaviors going back to the beginning of our nation.
Why isn't racism being brought up in this instance? Our justice system says there is not enough evidence to prosecute, yet racist power mongers at the U of M seem dead set on destroying these young black men, on the hearsay of others.
To me, this smacks of racism. But, maybe I am a lone Gopher.

this guy agrees with you

Thats a stretch. I believe the EOAA lead administrator is African American. Could be wrong on this.

Too lazy to look it up, but what happened to the Gopher wrestlers that got caught selling Xanax? What was their punishment?

Yeah, let's stir the pot even more

Some were suspended until January and are currently suspended. I haven't heard if or how the EOAA got involved.

In this case we have one victim group displaying bigotry against another victim group. Quite interesting.

Absolutely nothing to do with racism. Period. Stop trying to play that card every time something doesn't go your way. These boys made a stupid decision and put themselves in a situation where they could be accused of rape. I am 100% confident that this EOAA board would have acted the same way even if some or all of the players were white. The issue is weather the boys have had their fair due process. If they haven't, I'm more confident it is because they are male, not because they are black.

BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE STUPID.

Let's hope so. Good heavens this situation is bad enough for Gopher athletics.

Who knows if these guys are guilty of anything beyond being involved in an incredibly dumb situation. But if these are the guys who were there - what difference does it make what color they are?

When was it announced that the girl was white? I've never heard that, not that it matters. This isn't a race issue.

So a department, whose main role is to ensure diversity and fair treatment for all students would have it out for African American athletes and would specifically target them based on race?

Racism in this country is a problem but to try and make this EOAA investigation about race is foolish because it is an organization that is in place to help protect diversity on campus.

Oh please. Give me a break. Last time I checked boy was another term for a male, which these PLAYERS are. Would u feel better if I edited my post and said gentlemen instead?? On second thought I guess I should call them kids, after all some could be transgender and get offended. Wait, calling them kids might offend the goats. Sheesh....

Folks like u r the problem with society today.

You're correct, this is their stated goal. Why then are their actions and intents clearly misandrist and intent on assuming male guilt until proven otherwise?

"Young men" has a nice ring to it. But you're right...you have my blessing. Go ahead and call them boyz.

Because our culture in general and committee's like the EOAA specifically, are geared to protect women and take their side when rape is alleged. Right or wrong that is the way it works. Remember Duke lacrosse???

Just a bit of friendly advice: your sanctimony would play better if you didn't have a picture of a scantily clad women next to your moniker...

Sooo the historical presence of systemic racism is simply a 'card' to be played when things don't go the way of black people? You're an idiot, or a racist. You should feel bad about either.

Not the first time that's happened...

But racism doesn't always (or even usually) manifest itself as some evil guy in a backroom rubbing his hands together thinking up a plot to harm black people. Sometimes its the willingness to crimanilize or marginalize black people because of your perception of them. There are dozens of stereotypes and negative connotations associated with black football players on major university campuses and its not a stretch to think those things may be playing a role here in how the EOAA is proceeding.

Wow some of y'all actually believe EEOA is a non-partisan organization that doesn't change its behavior to suit their world view...

and as far as racism goes, f*** it im in, let's throw everything we got at the administration that allowed this situation to happen. i hope we pummel those fart sniffing limousine liberal academics until they have to resign and we can get some real leaders in charge of this university

I said it shouldn't be played EVERY time something doesn't go your way. I didn't say it couldn't be played. Racism exists and should be stamped out. It isn't present in this case, in my opinion.

Careful Bub! That's my sister you're talking about.

Personally, I don't think it has anything to do with racism. That really isn't the style of these groups. I think some of the reactions by people to what has happened might be influenced by race.

These groups are regressive ideologues. It's literally the same school of thought that wants to pass out consent contracts for sex. It's the same school of thought that is attacking free speech in Canada. They are setting up safe spaces on a college campus where students can go so that they aren't triggered (which really means that they are setting up spaces where they don't have to run into thoughts they don't agree with).

It's similar to the Virginia episode in Rolling Stone. There was an expose that turned out to be an absolute lie (she said that she went to a frat party and was raped). There wasn't a party that night. The person she said raped her didn't exist (think Manti Teo situation). There wasn't a party that night. A sexual assault did not occur. However, there were people that STILL wanted the frat punished for promoting "rape culture".

I think the better way to try to understand these groups is that sexual assault is like being accused of being a witch. Denying it can equal harassment. Defending yourself can equal harassment. Consent is no longer consent. Up is down, down is up. It's insanity. However, I don't think it is based on race.

bob you said it great here man im totally on board with you

in terms of fighting this though, i say go scorched earth and give them a taste of their own medicine. i want the administration to feel the heat for this kind of overreach - none of this 'our bad' if things come out good for the players and they are released. i want heads on spikes after the disgusting display of sanctimony put on the university and am ashamed of the lack of spine from coyle.

" You mentioned rape twice? I know, I like rape" .... Hedley Lamar to a henchman candidate in " Blazing Saddles"

I think race is fair to bring up...but only as speculation at this point. No way to know yet. But it has crossed my mind more than once. Hopefully more facts come to light.

10 male students of color had sex with a white cheerleader - that's more than enough to rile up plenty on this board.
