This has come up many times on Gopherhole before but with Prince's passing it came to mind again. I don't think there'd be a more perfect "Minnesota" song to play at the end of 3rd quarter than Prince's Let's Go Crazy. Might have to do some editing to cut the time between the amazing into... Dearly beloved... And the chorus that'd get the Bank rocking... let's go crazy!

But what an awesome way to remember one of our most famous and beloved native sons. Whaddaya say???

I believe the issue before was getting permission from Prince to use his music. Not sure how that changes with his estate.

However, have always agreed there'd be no better 3rd quarter song for the Gophers than this.

It would be great, but this will not happen. Sorry.

We lost a national treasure who chose to stay home and be a part of his community, his State.

Think most of the older crowd would love it. Unsure about student section. Is a fantastic song though

I'm guessing a lot of that student section partook in the First Ave gathering. They'd own it.

Prince pulled his music from every service except Tidal.

When he changed his name to a symbol it was a middle finger to Warner Brothers for screwing him in a contract that went bad. He'd been fighting against labels and services and everyone for decades, and I think he was on the right side of that fight.

I'm sorry, but that song will not happen, even though every single person here and in the stadium would love it.

So...since we put a new song in for the 3rd quarter every year, this is my nomination for this season. It has a 100% positive message, but I'm not going to type out the lyrics, there is no lyric version and it's unknown enough that I can't find the lyrics online. However, some out takes are:

We'll take the world and make it ours
We'll shine brighter than the stars

And a perfect line for Goldy

We'll move so fast your head will spin
You know we just can't help but win

I interviewed the frontman, Andrew Simple, who is an incredible guy. I also started a grassroots effort on reddit.com to have this song replace Fallout Boy for ESPN's coverage of College Football. And as a matter of fact, Andrew Simple's management group, Peer Music, has been working with a PR firm in LA to make that happen with ESPN after we brought that up to them. I don't know if that will come to fruition, but I think this is a damn near perfect song to use.

I give you The Phantoms, and Take The World (Let's Go)

the Twins just announced their playing "little red corvette" during the 7th inning stretch for the rest of the year.

I would go with Purple Rain or 1999 personally. They're among his top songs and more family friendly.

Love this! We need to make it happen.

That is only for streaming. You can still buy nearly all his music from Apple iTunes and Amazon.

Right. It reflects his feelings towards licensing his music for use rather than purchase.

You can't just buy the song on iTunes and play it at an event.

What about When You Were Mine? That has one of the best guitar riffs ever.

I never much cared for Prince. Let the 3rd Q be.

Let's Go Crazy, awesome song for the 3rd quarter. There's gotta be some way to make this happen.

Why can't you? The Wild have played a bunch of his songs at the game today. If you own the song, you can play it at your event. Do you think every DJ at a wedding gets personal permission for each song they play?

God... we are desperate to be Wisconsin, aren't we?

Was Wisconsin desperate to copy Penn St or Penn St desperate to copy the Red Sox?

Ever since there have been PA systems people have been playing music over them.

Also Jump Around is the dumbest college football 'tradition' out there. Hey everybody let's jump up and down to some crappy 90s rap song. Not that they shouldn't do it or it is not fun I just think it is completely overhyped for what it actually is. I'm some ways I agree with you we try to copy Wisconsin too much. We should just embrace who we are and go from there.

I'm bored of the Prince thing. RIP, now let's move on.

Yes, or at least legally speaking they should be. Now, if a guy DJ-ing a wedding in Detroit Lakes plays a song that he doesn't technically own the rights to, probably nobody at the label will notice. If a major university or pro sports team plays it they might notice. Typically those larger organizations will either have purchased a large library of song rights from a media company, so if it's covered by their agreement they are good to go. Prince was very tight on control of the music he made, but I would imagine most of the hits are probably on a typical pop library.

Went to the Twins - Nationals game on Friday. Nationals had a Prince tribute and colored the whole stadium purple prior to the National Anthem for a moment of silence. I swear every change of inning they played a Prince song and Let's Go Crazy followed Take Me out to the Ballpark during the 7th inning stretch. Nationals also played "Kiss" during the kiss cam.

The University claims Prince as an alumnus on the recruiting pamphlets, why shouldn't they play a Prince song in the third quarter. It shouldn't be Purple Rain though, much to slow.

And to all you GH faithful, remember when the trolls try to cut on our love of Prince, "When the elevator tries do break you down, Go Crazy!"

I would.think you need to funnel it through the worst marketing program in the B1G Ten. But I would agree, great song and would replace the horrible sh-t they now come up with in the third quarter.

Unlike "Jump Around"(by House of Pain/from L.A.?), Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" is a song from a Minnesota original.

BTW I could be mistaken as the game has changed greatly over the years, but (as a DJ/ Radio and Wedding or other gatherings)I believe you can buy rights to play music over a P.A. through BMI, and or ASCAP. That is assuming the artist is registered with either of the two.
