I would of thought after his stupid comments prior to the Nebraska game the coaches would have spoke to him about not giving the opponent any extra motivation, and then he comes out and says the following before the Wisconsin game:

"Player-wise, I don't think they are anything special."

"In the past, they've had some pretty neat players that have gone on to the NFL, but this year they are nothing spectacular,"

He went on to say some more comments. I'll include a link to the article. I've never had a least favorite Gopher before, but this knucklehead just changed that.
I don't care if it is true or not, there is absolutely zero reason to say something like that. The ONLY thing it does is give each and every player on the other team extra motivation for the game. And if you say it's not going to make a difference, you're being naïve. A lot of you played sports, and if a player on your arch rival comes out and says they've had some pretty neat players in the past but this year they are nothing spectacular, that gives you plenty of motivation to want to go out and kick that teams ass even more so. And who the hell says neat? Jon, you're 5-6! You haven't won once in the 4 years you've been on this team. You made similar comments before the Nebraska game and got trounced at home to a mediocre team that you beat the previous 2 years!

I just absolutely cannot believe this coaching staff wouldn't have schooled their players on this. Look at the comments he made before the Nebraska game, and then Nebraska went out and kicked their asses up and down the field! There's not much that is dumber, than giving a team something to put on their bulletin board, to basically say there is no one spectacular on their team, particularly when you haven't beaten them in over a decade!!!

Someone please shut this kid up! Fortunately he is a senior! Hey Jon, you can talk AFTER you beat Wisconsin, not when you're 0-4 against them!

Isn't that why only select players talk to the media under Kill?

Claeys should rein in the PR talk & social media yabber-jabbers.

The last thing we want is for a team that we are facing to use bulletin board materials against us before a big game. The team leaders should help in the policing of teammates in regards to what to avoid saying in public. It is not just the coaches job. It is the whole team's.

People that think "bulletin board material" has any impact on a game have never played sports.

If you're not motivated enough to want to go and kick a big rivals' ass already, then there is something wrong with you. I'm with those that don't think this kind of stuff matters a whole lot.

The University of Wisconsin twitter account took a few shots at the Gophers today. Do we really think that is going to encourage our players to play even harder?

Sorry, but this quote will have absolutely zero impact on the outcome of the game. To think that Wisconsin will try extra hard now that JC said that they were unspectacular is ridiculous. I guess we've been doing too much talking before this game for the last however many years it's been since we won huh? I wonder if Joe Namath wishes he could take back his Super Bowl guarantee. Talent, desire, preparation, execution...these things matter, not pregame talk.

Yep! The reason Nebraska kicked out butts has to be because of Jon's comments! Not because they have superior talent.

The Huskers lost some very close games under crazy circumstances. And 4 of their losses by a total of 12 points have come against teams with a combined record of 30-12; BYU, Miami-Fla, Wisconsin and Northwestern. Plus they beat Michigan State. I can't imagine what our record would be against the same four teams. We know how we did against NU. Surely Jon must have said something prior to Northwestern kicking our butts!

I don't expect our Gophers to beat Becky but if we do lose it will have to be because of Jon's comment. What other reason could there be??

It's one thing to guarantee a win, which serves to motivate your teammates, it's another to call out another team and each player on that team by saying they're nothing special and that they don't have anyone on their team that is spectacular.

Not saying that will be the reason, just saying it certainly won't help and it was stupid to say, because there was absolutely no need, or good reason, to say it.

The University of Wisconsin Twitter account isn't a starting offensive lineman on the team playing the game Saturday.

Jon Christenson also said:

"Not having beat them yet in my career, it's something that will be pretty special when we do," added Christenson, a Minnetonka native who is 0-4 against the Badgers..."As I say often, if I didn't think so, it wouldn't happen. So Nebraska, obviously, we lost, but these past three or four games, we have been rolling as an offense," Christenson said. "Wisconsin will be a great test for us, and we really hope we can keep it rolling."

So you shouldn't get to upset. The Badgers feelings aren't that hurt.

On Monday, Badgers defensive end Chikwe Obasih, of Brookfield, Wis., said there is no added pressure to keep the Axe. "It's our Axe," he said.

On the overall rivalry, Obasih added, "There's going to be disdain and dislike for each other. ... It's going to be fun."

You absolutely should believe it's going to happen, even say you're going to win, but don't disparage the players on the other team and say they don't have anyone special, basically calling out their whole team. It's absolutely stupid.

Bulletin Board Material... Yawn

I know it will encourage you and I to watch more college football Saturday. Although I'm in San Diego on vacation, so wifey isn't as keen on tracking down a bar with BTN here...

This^^^^^

Just go out and execute your assignments. You'll be fine.

I guess Bill Belichick doesn't know what he is doing then, because he has used "bulletin board" material throughout his tenure with the Patriots. His players have talked about how he has used it through the years. Might be something to it if one of the greatest football coaches of all time thought it important enough to take the time to communicate it to his teams both visually and orally and make a point of doing it. But what does he know? We're human, not machines. The game is played with energy and emotion. Words can motivate, energize, and focus individuals. With that being said, there won't be many people happier than myself if the Gophers win on Saturday. I hate the Badgers more than any sports team ever.

Bielema (2009?) "we consider Minnesota in state recruiting."

Win streak at 11 and counting.

Scoreboard material is all that really matters.

Nobody noticed the real tragedy here? We can't have any players talking like this: "In the past, they've had some pretty neat players that have gone on to the NFL."

It's hilarious that anyone can actually think that bulletin board material doesn't exist simply because they don't think that players should need any extra motivation to play their hardest. Have you ever watched ESPN? Professional coaches and players say it works all the time. Do you guys just think that Mike Zimmer is crazy?

Mental Preparation

People that think "bulletin board material" has any impact on a game have never played sports.

Mental preparation, discipline, mindset, momentum, attitude, are the difference in winning and losing. Football is a game of emotion. How well you channel it and control it is significant in performance. Just go back to the NW/Minnesota game...one team was jacked all game...one team moped all day. Mental preparation is a huge part of coaching! Anybody who doesn't think all the little things add up to big things is missing a big chunk of sports. Discipline, motivation etc are mental and important in determining a winner.

Our offensive line hasn't been as good as last year...how big a factor was Epping's attitude on offense and Botticelli on defense?
Most of you evidently would say none.

In the context of this thread, you're making the assumption that the grit displayed by those players was fueled by "bulletin board material".

You're assumption is wrong.

Seniors, Go get that Axe!

If any locals in San Diego have any opinions about Melvin Gordon, I'd love to hear it. Just another system running back that failed at the next level. He has as many TDs as Cobb, and Cobb sat out for 10 weeks.

The Gopher just finished a stretch against Michigan, the OSU and iowa. The Gopher was able to compete with all three. All three are having better seasons than that stinking badger. What the Gopher said about that stinking badger is all true. Do NOT fear that stinking badger. Go play football against that stinking badger. The OSU has some pretty damn good 4 & 5 star fantasy football recruits...Michigan had a couple too. Stinking iowa beat that stinking badger. So why the hell should the Gopher fall down and kow-tow to that stinking badger?

The Gopher will either win or lose on Saturday. Neither result would come as a shock to all those mob-influenced bookies and addicted sports fans who lay their money down on college football games. But, I WANT the Gopher to realize that that stinking badger is just another college team that lost to iowa and Northwestern, had a competitive game with Illinois...and didn't have to play MSU, Michigan or tOSU. The Gopher belongs on the field with the stinking badger. Beat the stinking badger, Gopher and end the madness...

I don't believe in all the bulletin board, extra motivation BS. It's your rival, the biggest game of the year. Both teams should be sufficiently motivated.

Having said that, Jon Christenson sounds like an idiot here. Dude, they've beaten us 11 (!) straight years. Most of these games have not even been close. That is an embarrassingly long time to be dominated by your fiercest rival. Just shut up and play.

Seniors, Go get that Axe!

We should get our whole team a Badger purse, put their nuts in it and present it to them when they step of the bus. Oh yeah, have Goldy run their flag all over TCF as well. I can't believe how scared people are for us to talk a little smack. I'm with ya, GO GET THAT AXE !

Maybe the Gopher just hasn't been cheeky, edgy, nasty enough and simply failed to show up without enough "...in your face..." attitude, trashing of the talk...and just, plain nasty, Try it this way this year and go ahead and remind that stinking badger that all of those "neat" players they used to have are gone and it is going to be time to just have the Gopher realize that they have seen a LOT better football teams in their last few games than the former (neat player) stinking badger has. Play football Gopher and you are correct: the stinking badger used to have some pretty neat players...but...they look pretty average this season and they haven't played all that tough a schedule. Beat that stinking badger, Gopher. This is 2015...nothing more...nothing less.

Why don't we just spread those nuts on the ground and let them step and stomp on them as they make their way into the stadium...
