11. Minnesota. The Gophers missed the postseason. But Year Three under Richard Pitino has promise even with Andre Hollins, Elliott Eliason, Deandre Mathieu and Mo Walker gone. It’s time for Pitino’s recruits to play bigger roles, guys like Nate Mason, Charles Buggs and Carlos Morris, among others. Big man Joey King is back, which will help, along with one of the Big Ten’s better recruiting classes led by Kevin Dorsey and Illinois State transfer Zach Lofton.

Go Gophers!!

Not to mention Buggs isn't a Pitino recruit.

Go Gophers!!

Well, he is a little ahead of the game on predicting Lofton will be part of it (it's possible) and a little bit off saying Buggs is a Pitino recruit so I'm going to say he's off on the 11th place prediction as well. We are going to surprise and finish higher.

10th? :(

Dienhart gonna Dienhart. Research isn't his thing.

I have 2 modest goals for the 2015-16 season.

(1) Schedule a significant non-conference home game separate of the ACC Challenge; and

(2) Finish no worse than 10th, which means avoiding the "Wednesday thing" at the Big Ten Tournament. That's embarrassing, though I must say it was pretty cool to have general admission that day and have great seats for the 2 bottom-feeder games. A small bone to enjoy in a mostly empty arena.

Possibly.... It's hard to predict anything about next year's team- so many new guys and more coming. However, I just have a feeling that we have a group of returning guys that will improve and a real nice group of recruits. Pair that with a coach that has something to prove and got kicked around a bit this year and I think there is the motivation and the potential talent to surprise. We still need the right addition or two this spring which is not an easy task.

For the most part these rankings seem fair at this point. I'd say he has Ohio State too high, and Wisconsin & Purdue too low (assuming he thinks Hammons isn't coming back). I'd have Gophers #12 (ahead of Penn State & Rutgers), with a ceiling of #10.

Apparently Dienhart is unaware Junior Etou is transferring from Rutgers.

I know why these rankings are done, but they are really dumb until the rosters are finalized. So much can change between transfers, NBA declarations, signing recruits, etc.

I think he has Wisconsin too high especially if Dekker goes pro which seems likely and Illinois is the team he has too low. I'd have the Gophers ahead of Nebraska, Penn State, and Rutgers right now and right with Northwestern and I think we could end up #8 or #9.

When Coach McHale left Seton Hall, their recruiting got much better without him. Some things are just hard to explain.

Like how you had never seen Lofton play, then watched a one highlight video and declared him our best player.

Jigga posted more game film of Lofton on Gopherhole than any recruit I've ever seen. I believe Coach P. said he was the best player in the program, or something to that effect. He also said he had an NBA ready body.

Ha, ok.

Ceiling of #10? No way do I buy that. I'll credit you for not being homer at least.

For what it's worth, in the preseason I projected the Gophers to be a NCAA tourney qualifier. http://www.gopherhole.com/news_article/show/404627?referrer_id=388419

and then mid-season (prior to conference play) http://www.forums.gopherhole.com/boards/showthread.php?59236-Final-Big-Ten-Preseason-Projection I picked them to finish 10-8 and tied for 6th in the BIG. So I guess that means I highly oversold the Gophers.

No, you just believed a team with 4 contributing seniors wouldn't crap the bed in the clutch as much as they did, which I think is reasonable. Those first 4 or 5 games in the conference just completely derailed the whole season.

I agree with your assessment. That was my "slight dig" at Richard and his father (post Apocalyptic season) hinting/suggesting expectations were too high. Certainly don't think mine were.

This is what we get after 2+ recruiting classes....Where are the rubes that posted that Pitino was the second coming and that The Gophs would be final 4 team in his 4th season.

I don't recall seeing a single post claiming either of these things. I'll eagerly await links showing these comments from "the rubes."

Brain Trust is right about one particular poster that had the final four declaration in his signature. Something similar to.....

"Final Four by 2015/2016. No I really believe that"

Many of us did get caught up in the first year recruiting lists and made some ludicrous statements. Just ask dpol.
