All Things 2015 Gophers Spring Practice: Tweets, Links, Analysis, Video & More

I learned to appreciate Leidner's toughness this year. No QB this side of Tim Tebow could have absorbed the blows he took and made it through the entire season. Despite how bad our passing game was at times, we still won 8 games. If Mitch improves a little and the WRs are who they're being advertised to be, the passing game could be ok and we could be looking at a 9-10 win season.

I agree. Not to mention he played with a leg injury all year did he not?

I would add that besides having more open receivers, and he steps up his game, it would be nice to get him some more time from the O line this year. Maybe better WR play will help with that in the form of quicker routes that allow Mitch to get rid of it quicker.

You are on to something here. ML7 had time to read, set, and throw in the Citrus Bowl and looked pretty good. Team game.

Not sure what that has to do with the Gophers.

While it's factually accurate to say that Leidner had us playing for the B1G championship and Dilfer led the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory, it's questionable how much of each team's success was due to the performance of those players.

The aggregate of mild positives will bring substantial gains in Leidner's performance in 2015. 2016 will be off the charts.

Thought I read Campion might not even be practicing yet, but has anybody noticed if they've been working him in at Left or Right Guard and if so how's he been looking?

STrib: Claeys pleased with Gophers' linebacker depth

Watching the Gophers' defense at spring practice, the unit that stands out the most is still the secondary. Even with Cedric Thompson headed to the NFL, they are loaded back there and could potentially start four seniors -- Briean Boddy-Calhoun, Eric Murray, Damarius Travis and Antonio Johnson -- with former Iowa State safety Charlie Rogers at the nickel.

This spring, the linebackers have made observers do a double take, too. Damien Wilson is headed to the NFL after being a mainstay in the middle, but the Gophers have more overall linebacker talent walking around the field now.

"We’ve got enough bodies [at linebacker]," defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys said. "It’s just a matter of straightening out where it’s all going to go together."

Go Gophers!!

Outside of a few freshman type plays/mistakes from Everett Williams, I was really impressed with his play last year. I hope he has a big spring as I think he can be a good playmaker at LB.

Dilfer also helped lead Fresno State to three straight conference titles, was the WAC's offensive player of the year his senior season and held the NCAA record for consecutive passes without an interception for 14 years.

How tight was his spiral?

Well, the question was when was the last time a Gopher QB had played on a team of ours that had us contending for B1G Championship (West Division)? I doubt people were making comments about him "Kind of sucking", whenever the last time that was (early 60's, maybe?). Still haven't gotten an answer on that.

Look, we all know ML7 needs to improve in some areas, but it isn't all on him, either. I am confident he will improve this Spring and he will be better in 2015 than he was in 2014 regardless of how "tight" his spiral is.

The same year that we had a RB, WR, TE, OL, DT, CB, MLB, and Punter on a team contending for the B1G Championship.

I agree with second paragraph.

It's, obviously, a totally different game now than what it used to be. Consequently, saying when was the last time people complained etc. is an irrelevant point. BUT…here's your answer….I wasn't around, but it appears the great Sandy Stephens wasn't doing much with his arm.

Comp ATT Yds Pct. Y/Att TD INT Rating
Mitch Leidner 122 237 1798 51.5 7.59 11 8 123.8
Sandy Stephens 22 62 326 35.5 5.3 2 5 74.2 (1960)
Sandy Stephens 54 153 869 35.3 5.7 9 13 85.4 (1961)

Thus, Mitch actually has better stats than the heralded Sandy Stephens.

In '67, 5 QB's played and 3 of them threw between 36 and 76 passes….all of them with more picks than TD's.
1 Curt Wilson 33 76 543 43.4 7.1 6 8 108.4
2 Phil Hagen 27 56 337 48.2 6.0 2 4 96.3
3 R.Stephens 10 36 150 27.8 4.2 0 3 46.1
4 L.Carlson 6 11 54 54.5 4.9 1 0 125.8
5 Wintermute 1 3 17 33.3 5.7 0 1 14.3

The bank I work for is owned by BNP Paribas. So, we hear all about the BNP Paribas Open for a solid month in emails.

Can anyone confirm for me whether or not this Saturday's 9:50 am practice at Nagurski is still open to the public? I've seen differing schedules...
And if it is, can someone give me a very brief idea where they'd like us to enter the facility and what to expect to see? I've never stuck my nose in, but would like to check out the WR's...

Yes - it is at 9:50 am and it is open to the public. You enter through the front doors of the complex on 15th Avenue. It is definitely worth doing.

Hey, thank you very much. I am looking forward to it.
