All Things Carter Coughlin Thread

He is obviously telling the coaches that he will be attending tOSU. Just wanted to be classy and let the coaches know face to face. They are giving him one last good bye and farewell which is the reason for him hugging the coaches as he won't see them again.

Now that he has committed to the gophers this post is pretty much why I love this site sooooo much.

Was CC a 4 star on Rivals before he committed. I see he is a 3 star now, which is laughable

I'm not certain, but I don't think he was ever a 4-star on Rivals. I agree, his profile fits that of a 4-star perfectly. He has been productive, has great measurables, plays against top-level competition (for MN), has the perfect build for a future stud OLB at the major college level, has a high ceiling, and more. He'll be a 4-star with a massive senior season, which I fully expect.

And Great offers!
Ohio State and Oregon writeups all refer to him as 4 star prospect. There are 4 pages of Carter 4 star posts in Google. For me it's the offers guys get as a part of determination for the stars. Rivals had some other guys we recruited this fall/winter with like 12 to 20 big time offers and rated some of them sometimes 2 and sometimes 3 stars.

The highlight tapes for some of our low or unrated guys in Rivals were pretty impressive. Another indication of flaws in the Rivals evaluations.

Carter is 4 stars on 247.

Carter is on 1500 with Doogie right now. Sounds like a great kid. Called Doogie "Sir" the entire time. Tells Doogie he will help recruit others, and that he expects a lot of in state guys to end up Gophers. Mentioned that he is 205 now, plans to be 220 by football and eventually play in college around 245.

He isn't a 4 star on Rivals but he is the #1 three star OLB as he is ranked #24 and the #23 ranked OLB is a 4 star so he just barely missed out. On GI, Josh Helmodt says he usually goes conservative when grading a player that he hasn't watched in person. Says there are a few things that are hard to get a feel for with their movement and motions by just watching a guy on hudl. Once he sees him live I would expect him to become a 4 star.

He is a 4 star recruit. We have two now. And recruiting services have us 8th in the Big 10. I really like both Garcia and Coughlin. Who is next?

I'll try and not hold that against him...

He is a great kid and turning out to be a great leader. Go Gophers!

Wait, isn't this where someone comes in defending Doogie, saying how much he supports the Gophers, etc.? You know, ignoring that he is a tool, inaccurate, and about as "plugged in" as me.

Butt plug?

I can't remember the time I've thought that a Kill recruit was an ass. He recruits character almost as much as ability and it shows. Go to the Spring game and go on the field after the game an talk to these young men. they are top class. CC will be right at home.

So is there a pretty good chance he'll start as one of our OLB his freshman year?

Always a chance. But who knows?

Being a starter is too important for some of you. The key is "ready to help with depth."

Lynn and Celestin are the best bets to start at OLB in 2016 IMO. Plus either Poock or Williams, whoever isn't starting in the middle would also be a candidate. He will play a ton on third down though.

All that may be true, but I highly doubt Judd and Mackey would have cared enough to have him on.

It's just to cute to cheer for the home team, unless it's the miserable failures: Vikings, Wild, Timberwolves (They pay out the nose to keep KFAN afloat, for now.)

per Shama:

“I am set in Maroon and Gold,” Coughlin told Sports Headliners. “There’s no question.”

Ohio State is college football’s defending national champ and will be a heavy favorite to repeat next year. What if the Buckeyes keep calling Coughlin and the Gophers have a bad season? “I am going to help build the program brick by brick,” Coughlin said. “I am completely invested in Minnesota and that’s my final decision.”

“I can’t even explain how excited I am about this (Gophers) coaching staff,” Coughlin said. “Looking at what coach Kill has done with every single program that he’s had—every single program just keeps getting better and better. Minnesota has gotten so much better in the past couple years and it’s just going to keep continuing to grow.”

Last fall Kill led the Gophers to a 5-3 record in the Big Ten, the first time Minnesota has been over .500 in conference games since 2003. In Kill’s first two seasons his overall record was 9-16 but in the last two it is 16-10. Minnesotans, including the Coughlin family, are impressed.

“He has tremendous respect for the man,” Jennie said. “It’s exciting to see what’s happening with the Minnesota Gophers and how much they’re growing and building, and he wants to be a part of that. I think it’s been his dream as a young boy to play for the Gophers. Dream come true, really.”
