January 10th saw the end of the College Football season with the Georgia Bulldogs and the TCU Horned Frogs closing out proceedings in the College Football Playoffs National Championship game, which the Bulldogs had a big time 65-7 win over the Horned Frogs.
Even though we’re a little while off the start of the 2023-24 NCAAF season, it’s worth taking a look at how the experts think things are looking as we approach the new season. Though there aren’t any odds on games yet, we can look at who they think will be winning the championship, while I think it’s fair to say it’s kind of obvious who the experts think will be winning the NCAAF Championship next season, we’ll pick out some names and throw the odds out there anyway!
Georgia is led by legendary coach Kirby Smart. Smart has pushed Nick Saban off the mantle as the top coach in the country as Smart now has back to back national championships and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Smart is 81-15 during his tenure at Georgia and he makes more than $10 million per year. His recruiting is as good as ever and is likely going to lead to a long streak competing for national titles.
Starting with the top 3 favorites to take the NCAAF Championship, starting with reigning playoff champions, the Georgia Bulldogs. They had a rather easy game in the final it seems as they won 65-7 in the final, to round out a perfect season. You can get the bulldogs at +275 to become back to back champions, this would return $18.75 from a $5 stake. Next are the Alabama Crimson Tide who looked pretty impressive last season but a few niggles had them drop a couple games, but if they could correct their mistakes they could make a good run in the 2023-24 season, you can get them at +550 which would return $32.50 from $5.
Finally, to round out the top 3 are Ohio State, a team that is always there and thereabouts when it comes to being one of the better teams in the entire NCAAF and they will have been kicking themselves with their 11-2 regular season record, but they pushed the Bulldogs all the way in the Peach Bowl, even holding the lead for a big chunk of the game, losing by a point in the end. With betting now legal in the State there will be plenty of sports betting bonuses available for Ohio punters to use on the upcoming NCAAF season where we will see the Buckeyes get their revenge. You can get the Buckeyes at +750 which would return $42.50 from a $5 stake. Just as a point of reference and to show how much work the Gophers have to put in to get there, the Golden Gophers are currently +20000 to win a boat, which would return $1,005 from a $5 stake. Lots of work to do then I suppose!
Georgia will have to replace Heisman Trophy winner Stetson Bennett who will enter the NFL Draft after leading his team to back to back national championships. He’s likely to be a top 5 NFL pick in this years draft.
So with “too early for 2023” rankings coming out, Georgia once again finds itself predicted to win another national title. A three-peat would be the first since the 1930’s which the Minnesota Golden Gophers achieved.
