The Big Ten conference officially announced its plans to play football this fall, Wednesday morning. The first week of games is tentatively set for the weekend of Oct. 24 which we have already seen can change very quickly in this era of COVID-19.
Each team in the conference is planned to play eight conference games over the span of eight weeks. The Gophers‘ schedule has not been officially announced.
This decision comes two weeks into the season for some power five programs, so the Big Ten will begin its 2020 campaign behind the eight ball. The majority of the ACC and Big 12 will be five games (four conference) into their schedule, while the SEC will be anywhere from four to five games into theirs before anyone in the Big Ten has played a game. As of now we can only speculate how this will effect the College Football Playoff voting at the end of the season.
