Jones has taken recent official visits to Minnesota and Iowa State.
Jeff Jones, a 5-10, 180-pound senior running back from Minneapolis Washburn who was named Minnesota’s Mr. Football, recently visited Iowa State. The Gopher commit took his official visit to Minnesota earlier this month.
Jones rushed for 1523 yards (9.1 yards per carry) as a senior. He had 493 receiving yards (18.5 yards per reception). Jones had 44 touchdowns this season and finished his career with 4668 yards and 92 career touchdowns.
Minneapolis Washburn head coach Giovan Jenkins is a big believer in his standout rusher.
“Jeff is the kind of player who looks great on film, but is even better live in person at game speed. His explosion, ability to change direction at full speed and heart to compete are the best I have ever seen at the high school level. He is always the best player on the field, regardless of opponent.”
The two-sport standout talked with Gopher Hole after the Millers’ basketball win over Eastview about the latest on his recruitment.
Gopher Hole: You visited Iowa State recently. How was that visit?
Jeff Jones: It was a great visit. Built a relationship with some players that I was there with. The coaching staff talked to me about how much they want me there.
Gopher Hole: I know that it is quiet period right now. Have you set up any other visits for January?
Jeff Jones: No. Not yet.
Gopher Hole: When do you head down to the All-Star Game?
Jeff Jones: December 28th.
Gopher Hole: It is a great honor to be named to that. What do you hope to get from that experience?
Jeff Jones: I just want to play against some good competition. There will be some guys that I will play against at the next level.
Gopher Hole: Do you know many of the guys that are on your team already through camps?
Jeff Jones: I know some of the guys that got invited from the Nike Opening, so I know a few guys out there.
Gopher Hole: Do you know what schools you are going to try to visit in January yet?
Jeff Jones: No, not yet. I’m thinking Michigan State, maybe Missouri. I still have to do some thinking.
Gopher Hole: Have you even decided when you are going to make that final decision? I think that the signing date is February 5th. Are you going to do it before then or would you wait until that day?
Jeff Jones: I’ll wait.
