Phil Steele releases preseason poll, ranking all college football teams, 1 to 136

After OSU, PSU, Oregon, likely Michigan and Iowa, teams will ebb and flow. Usually four of the mentioned will be ranked in the top 15 or so nationally and 4 or 5 in the top 25. We all want to be ranked higher but, like the rest of the BIG, getting and staying in the top five is an ongoing uphill...

Hat ceremonies and PJ's culture don't seem to blend. Kinda like oil and water. I'll be surprised if he chooses to be a Gopher. I won't be watching.

What Should I Expect This Season?

With a proven and seasoned HC on board we no longer can play the CBJ card. That "should" result in more BT wins. Enuf to get a NCAA bid? Probably not but a legitimate NIT spot is my expectation.

Another recruiting tool for coach Fleck? The city of Minneapolis?

Excellent! I can't believe the level of hatred over that. Hatred? Show me evidence of that. Minnesota citizens had no voice in the process to change the flag that represented them. It was led by a leftist legislation. The new flag implies very little about Minnesota's heritage nor history...

Jameson Geers is a sneaky really good TE

Talent and system. Fleck hasn't had a lot of NFL talent and when he did, he didn't seem to utilize it. BSF had his issues but the talent was there. Keft was and and still is Keft, a glorified blocking TE. Geers? Could he become a Iowa type productive TE? Only is Fleck trusts him.

What Should I Expect This Season?

Every season there is a team that "surprises". Maybe its our turn. But I know that could be an uphill battle as many teams seem to have more talent. But..........

Another recruiting tool for coach Fleck? The city of Minneapolis?

Mpls is often listed as an unsafe city. Gopher coaches have to deal with this. Every large metro area has their safe zones and neighborhoods to avoid. But one has to accept the reality where Mpls ranks. MSP is a huge metro area offering their pluses and trying to minimizing the negatives. There...

Big Ten returning scoring by percentage (MN 8.2%, 2 teams at 0%)

At this time, when one compares what PU has in their bucket compared to the Gophers it put things into perspective. I’ve posted here every time the Gophers bring in a new coach the struggle to compete with the cream of the BIG is a huge uphill struggle. At least we have an experienced HC at the...

Another recruiting tool for coach Fleck? The city of Minneapolis?

Based on 2023 data Mpls violent crime rate was 179% higher national, ranked in top ten in crime in USA. Recent data showed Mpls had highest crime rate of Minnesota largest cities followed by StCloud, Duluth and St Paul. To be fair early 2025 data shows lower crime rates. But this is pretty...

2025 Schedule - two Friday night games

Friday night games were a rarity 20 plus years ago as the BIG respected HS Friday nite football games. Michigan and Lloyd Carr reluctantly played the Gophers on Oct 10, 2003 at the damn dome due to a potential scheduling conflict as with the Twins being in the MLB playoffs. Of course the Gophers...
